Our European Footprint

By Victor Van Hoorn

ICI Global is the leading community of asset management firms worldwide. Our purpose is to help our members navigate their most complex policy issues and be their global advocates, capitalizing on our presence in Brussels, London, Hong Kong, and Washington, DC.

While ICI Global operates seamlessly across time zones, we are deeply committed to providing our perspectives on the European Union’s top priorities. Asset managers have an important role to play to contribute to the advancement of EU’s critical goals, from the pursuit of a true Capital Markets Union and retail investor empowerment to sustainable investing, and economic resilience.

That’s why we are expanding our team of experts in Brussels. With a more profound presence and additional resources, we aim to provide a unique multi-jurisdictional global perspective to the European policy discussions relevant to our industry while leveraging the extensive research and data expertise of ICI to ensure our members’ collective expertise can be drawn upon to help regulators, investors, and businesses navigate their way.

ICI Global was honoured to host an event in late September to introduce our new teammates to the Brussels community. Explore our bios and take a look at some of the photos from the evening.

Meet the (Brussels) team

Victor van Hoorn, Managing Director: van Hoorn leads European operations for ICI Global and heads the team in Brussels. A dual citizen of France and the Netherlands, van Hoorn joined ICI from Eurosif, where he has served as Executive Director since 2020. At Eurosif, he expanded the association and helped establish the group as a leading voice on sustainable finance and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues. Prior to Eurosif, van Hoorn led the financial services practice at the Brussels office of Hume Brophy, a European consulting firm. Prior to that van Hoorn worked as a financial regulatory lawyer in private practice advising alternative investment funds and mutual funds on European financial regulatory matters.

Corrado Camera, Director of EU Public Policy & Regulation: Camera brings his deep insight into European policymaking and international relations to ICI Global. An Italian citizen, Camera served as Senior Advisor to the US Treasury Representative in Europe, where over the course of almost two decades he has been instrumental in helping to develop public policy and provide insight, advice, and analysis to Treasury leadership and to five US Ambassadors to the European Union. He is a veteran of the US-EU financial regulatory forums and the ongoing global dialogue on regulatory inter-operability across jurisdictions.

Annette Capretta, Chief Counsel: Capretta guides ICI Global’s legal program in Europe, Asia, and elsewhere for the benefit of ICI members and long-term investors. She previously served as an Associate General Counsel at ICI, where she focused on sustainable investing and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) matters. Prior to her role as Associate General Counsel, she worked as Deputy Managing Director of the Independent Directors Council, advocating policy positions impacting fund governance and shareholder interests.

Eva Mykolenko, Associate Chief Counsel – Securities Regulation: Mykolenko is Associate Chief Counsel, Securities Regulation with ICI Global. Mykolenko advocates on behalf of global funds and their investors to securities regulators and multinational organizations. She started with the Institute in 2008 after more than eight years in private practice at Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP and Shearman & Sterling LLP. While in private practice, Mykolenko advised mutual fund, hedge fund, and investment adviser clients on a variety of compliance, regulatory, and transactional matters.

Shane Worner, Senior Economist for Europe: Worner will join the team next month and lead our research on asset management and markets. Worner is a PhD economist and brings a distinguished 30-year career spanning investment banking, asset management, academia, and public policy formation (both domestic and international). From 2011 to August 2022, Worner was employed in a variety of positions by the Madrid-based securities markets standard setter, IOSCO. While there, he coordinated IOSCO’s engagement in international asset management policy initiatives from 2012 to 2018. More recently, he led IOSCO’s data collection initiatives on leverage in investment funds while heading up IOSCO’s Market Intelligence and Data Analytics department.
