Additional Speakers Announced for Mutual Fund Annual Meeting May 19-21

Washington, DC, April 15, 1999 - The Investment Company Institute’s General Membership Meeting, the nation’s largest gathering of mutual fund executives, takes place Wednesday, May 19, through Friday, May 21, at the Hilton Washington Hotel & Towers in Washington, DC. The gathering features presentations, seminars, and panel discussions on topics of importance to the mutual fund industry and its shareholders.

The theme for Friday, May 21, will be "Emerging Issues for the Mutual Fund Industry Beyond the Year 2000." The breakfast session will feature addresses by Matthew P. Fink, President of the Investment Company Institute, and by Paul F. Roye, Director of the Division of Investment Management, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

The breakfast will be followed by a program that includes presentations by financial industry analysts and a panel discussion of fund chief executives. Introducing the theme, "The Outlook for Mutual Funds and Asset Managers," will be Sally Krawcheck, Securities Industry Analyst, Sanford C. Bernstein & Company, and Paul Schaeffer, Principal, Investment Counseling, Inc.

A panel of industry leaders will close the session with a discussion of these and other issues facing the industry. Panelists include Lawrence J. Lasser, President and CEO, Putnam Investment Management, Inc.; Bridget Macaskill, President and CEO, OppenheimerFunds, Inc.; and Thomas W. Jones, Co-Chairman and CEO, SSB Citi Asset Management Group. Robert C. Pozen, President and CEO, Fidelity Management & Research Company, will moderate the panel.

As previously announced, opening addresses will be the morning of Thursday, May 20, by Robert C. Pozen, 1999 General Membership Meeting Chairman, and John J. Brennan, Investment Company Institute Chairman, and Chairman and CEO of the Vanguard Group. The keynote address, "Fundamental Investing," will be delivered by Peter Lynch, Vice Chairman, Fidelity Research and Management Company.

Registration is $450 for Institute members, $850 for nonmembers, and $150 for spouses/guests of registrants. All events will be held at the Hilton Washington Hotel & Towers, 1919 Connecticut Avenue NW.
