Washington, DC, September 14, 2001 - The National Urban League (NUL), Coalition of Black Investors–Investment Education Fund (COBI–IEF), and the Investment Company Institute Education Foundation (ICIEF) today announced that its Investing for Success investor education workshop scheduled for September 20 in Miami has been cancelled in the wake of the acts of terrorism that occurred in New York and Washington. Other future workshops, including the workshop scheduled in Columbia, SC on October 13, are proceeding, pending further national developments.

"We deeply mourn the loss of life that resulted from the acts of terrorism in New York and Washington and extend our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the victims," Investment Company Institute Executive Vice President Julie Domenick said. "All who were interested in attending the Miami workshop can receive the same important investor education material by visiting our online interactive workshop."

The online interactive workshop, www.icief.org, serves as a resource for African-American investors to enhance their investment knowledge. The site integrates the video, brochures, slides, and worksheets from the workshop and combines them with quizzes, calculators, links to related resources, and other interactive learning tools.

The searchable, self-paced workshop is organized in 10 self-contained units. Each unit includes an overview, an explanation of how participants will benefit from completing the section, a lesson with educational materials, illustrations of specific examples, video clips of African-American investors and financial professionals, additional online resources, and an interactive review with immediate feedback.

The Investing for Success program is a partnership of the NUL COBI–IEF, and ICIEF. ICIEF is a charitable organization formed to support the educational programs of the Investment Company Institute on behalf of the U.S. mutual fund industry. Investing for Success is designed to address an "investment knowledge gap" that research shows exists between African Americans and the U.S. population at large.
