ICI Hires George Shevlin as Political Affairs Officer

Veteran Capitol Hill Staffer to Manage Political Program

Washington, DC, June 11, 2012 - The Investment Company Institute (ICI) today announced that George Shevlin has been hired as the new Political Affairs Officer. ICI is the national association of U.S. investment companies.

Shevlin will manage the Institute’s political program, including the Political Action Committee (ICI PAC). Additionally, he will work to reinforce the Institute’s relationships with key constituents on Capitol Hill and in the Administration and with other organizations.

“George’s experience on Capitol Hill, coupled with the expertise and relationships he has built in Washington during the past two decades, will be tremendous assets to the Institute as we move forward with our public policy agenda,” said ICI Government Affairs Co-heads Don Auerbach and Dean Sackett.

Shevlin has more than 20 years of experience on Capitol Hill, covering tax, financial services, and other business issues. From his time as Staff Director for the Committee on House Administration, which has jurisdiction over campaign finance and election laws, Shevlin has a deep working knowledge of the laws governing PACs and the Federal Elections Commission.

“George brings a wealth of technical, political, and policy knowledge to the position. We welcome him and are fortunate to have him join the ICI team,” added ICI President Paul Schott Stevens.

Shevlin most recently served as Executive Director and Staff Director to the House Democratic Caucus. Prior to that, he served as the Staff Director for the House Committee on Administration. Earlier in his career, Shevlin worked for a number of Members of the U.S. House of Representatives, including Rep. John Larson (D-CT), Rep. Jay W. Johnson (D-WI), and Rep. Doug Applegate (D-OH).

Shevlin received his bachelor’s degree in government and international relations from the University of Notre Dame. He earned his juris doctorate from the University of Baltimore School of Law and earned a master’s of law from the London School of Economics.

Shevlin is replacing Jim Hart who is retiring after six years with the Institute and more than 30 years working on Capitol Hill.
