ICI to Convene Annual Meeting With Multiple Events May 5-7

Agenda Features Key Regulators, Federal Lawmakers, and Industry Leaders

Washington, DC, April 19, 2010 - This year the mutual fund industry will gather for ICI’s 52nd Annual General Membership Meeting May 5-7 in Washington, DC. Simultaneously, ICI will offer additional programs—the Operations and Technology Conference, the Mutual Fund Compliance Programs Conference, and the Investment Company Directors Workshop—drawing together a diverse and wide-ranging audience to this industry event.

The GMM will feature the following speakers:

  • The Honorable Jon Corzine, former Senator and Governor from New Jersey, and The Honorable Trent Lott, former Senate Majority Leader, will speak at GMM’s opening event, a policy forum, on Wednesday, May 5.
  • John Heilemann, co-author of Game Change, a compelling account of the 2008 presidential election, will deliver the luncheon address on Thursday, May 6.
  • Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Mary Schapiro will review her agency’s agenda in a morning address on Friday, May 7.
  • Department of Labor Assistant Secretary Phyllis Borzi will address DoL’s agenda in the retirement area on Friday, May 7.

In addition, industry leaders will discuss their perspectives on the future of the industry and how developing regulatory policies and industry action will best serve investors. This year’s conference theme is “Investors and Investing - The Way Forward.” The GMM will also feature the Second Annual Legal Forum, in which law firms with asset management practices will offer 30-minute presentations on timely topics of importance to the fund industry.

Sessions at the parallel programs will cover a broad range of issues, including leadership, regulatory proposals, retirement saving, current distribution challenges, social media, product trends and technology. The GMM and Operations and Technology Conference are open to the media.
