ETF Assets and Net Issuance
Washington, DC, June 29, 2026—The combined assets of the nation’s exchange-traded funds (ETFs) were $15.60 trillion in May, according to ICI. The Institute’s monthly statistical collection also includes the value of shares issued and redeemed by exchange-traded funds.
Statistics contained in the Institute’s monthly ETF report have been obtained from information provided to ICI by exchange-traded funds and commodity funds. Commodity funds are listed in the Domestic (Sector/Industry) category.

Highlights: Assets of all exchange-traded funds rose in May by $805.25 billion, or 5.4 percent, to $15.60 trillion. Over the past 12 months, ETF assets increased $4.62 trillion, or 42.1 percent. Assets in domestic equity ETFs increased $2.94 trillion since May 2025, and global equity ETF assets rose $945.46 billion during this period. At the end of May 2026, assets of bond funds were $2.50 trillion and hybrid funds were $56.45 billion and commodity funds were $364.35 billion.
During May, the value of all ETF shares issued exceeded that of shares redeemed by $183.46 billion. In May 2025, the value of all ETF shares issued exceeded that of shares redeemed by $78.22 billion.
