Active and Index Combined Long-Term Mutual Funds and Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs): June 2026
Washington, DC; July 31, 2026—The combined assets of the nation’s active mutual funds and ETFs increased by $85.12 billion, or 0.5%, to $18.83 trillion in June while the combined assets of the nation’s indexed mutual funds and ETFs increased by $59.04 billion, or 0.3%, to $21.88 trillion in June according to the Investment Company Institute’s official survey of the mutual fund and ETF industry.

Highlights: Long-term active funds—equity, hybrid, and bond funds—had a net outflow of $7.78 billion in June versus an inflow of $11.01 billion in May, while long-term index funds had a net inflow of $119.32 billion in June versus an inflow of $96.47 billion in May.
Active funds
Equity funds posted an outflow of $36.49 billion in June, compared with an outflow of $32.05 billion in May. Among equity funds, world equity funds (U.S. funds that invest primarily overseas) posted an outflow of $12.12 billion in June, versus an outflow of $4.95 billion in May. Funds that invest primarily in the United States had an outflow of $24.37 billion in June, versus an outflow of $27.10 billion in May.
Hybrid funds posted an outflow of $7.31 billion in June, compared with an outflow of $2.76 billion in May.
Bond funds had an inflow of $36.02 billion in June, compared with an inflow of $45.82 billion in May.
Index funds
Equity funds posted an inflow of $79.71 billion in June, compared with an inflow of $35.41 billion in May. Among equity funds, world equity funds (U.S. funds that invest primarily overseas) posted an inflow of $14.44 billion in June, versus an inflow of $2.21 billion in May. Funds that invest primarily in the United States had an inflow of $65.27 billion in June, versus an inflow of $33.21 billion in May.
Hybrid funds posted an outflow of $630 million in June, compared with an outflow of $428 million in May.
Bond funds had an inflow of $40.24 billion in June, compared with an inflow of $61.48 billion in May.
