ICI Names Mike McNamee Chief Public Communications Officer

Washington, DC, October 11, 2012 - The Investment Company Institute has named Mike McNamee its Chief Public Communications Officer.

In his new role, McNamee will be responsible for all media and public relations, public policy writing, editorial, website, and design activities. He also will be responsible for the ICI Education Foundation. He will report to ICI President and CEO Paul Schott Stevens.

“One of ICI’s core missions is to promote public understanding of mutual funds, exchange-traded funds, and other investment companies, and we have built a strong team in Public Communications to meet that mission,” Stevens said. “With his breadth of experience, Mike has been integral to that team, and I am confident he will lead it very ably to advance the interests of our member funds and their millions of investors.”

Previously, McNamee was Senior Director, Policy Writing and Editorial. He joined ICI in 2006 as Director, Media Relations. Prior to joining ICI, McNamee was Deputy Washington Bureau Chief at BusinessWeek, where he had held numerous positions during his long tenure. He also worked as Washington Economics Correspondent for The Dallas Morning News, economics reporter at USA Today, and business editor of The Indianapolis Star. As a journalist, McNamee made frequent broadcast appearances as a commentator on financial and economic issues.

A graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, McNamee holds a Bachelor of Science in Political Science.

McNamee replaces F. Gregory Ahern, who was ICI’s Chief Public Communications Officer for the past eight years.
