SEC Political Contributions Proposal Will Give All Americans an Equal Voice
Washington, DC; September 3, 2026—Today, Investment Company Institute (ICI) Chief Government Affairs and Public Policy Officer Tom Quaadman issued the following statement in response to the Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) proposal to repeal its rule governing political contributions by investment advisers.
“American financial services professionals work in the only part of the private sector where their right to free speech is restricted. The wide array of robust federal, state, and local safeguards in place ensures public integrity and makes the current rule obsolete. The SEC’s proposal released today will allow financial services professionals to have the same ability as other Americans to participate in our democratic process. We look forward to working with the SEC to give all Americans an equal voice.”
