ICI Announces Shelly Antoniewicz as Chief Economist
Sean Collins to transition to senior advisor, Shane Worner to lead industry and financial analysis group
Washington, DC; October 1, 2024—The Investment Company Institute (ICI) announced that Rochelle “Shelly” Antoniewicz will become ICI’s new chief economist effective today. Sean Collins, ICI’s prior chief economist, will become a senior advisor. ICI also announced that Shane Worner has moved to ICI’s Washington, DC, office to become the senior director of industry and financial analysis.
“Shelly is a top-rate economist with a deep understanding of the financial markets,” said ICI President and CEO Eric Pan. “ICI has one of the most sophisticated economic research departments in the world engaged in the analysis of financial markets and tax and retirement policy, with over 40 full-time staff, a significant number of whom are PhD economists who have served in government or worked in industry. ICI is fortunate to have Shelly as its new Chief Economist and to have Shane work under Shelly to lead one of ICI’s major research groups. I am also very pleased that Sean will continue to be a big contributor to ICI as a senior advisor, as he been a tremendous leader of the research department for seven very busy years.”

About Antoniewicz
Antoniewicz joined the Institute in 2005, holding several roles including senior economist and senior director of industry and financial analysis. Prior to joining ICI, Antoniewicz spent 13 years as a staff economist and senior economist at the Federal Reserve Board. She is often quoted in news publications such as Bloomberg and the Financial Times with commentary on market trends. Antoniewicz earned her BA in management science from the University of California, San Diego, and her MS and PhD in economics from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
About Worner
Worner comes to ICI with over 30 years of experience spanning investment banking, asset management, academia and public policy formation. In March 2023, he joined the Institute as a senior economist in its Brussels office. Prior to joining ICI, Worner held a variety of positions at the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) coordinating IOSCO’s engagement in international asset management policy initiatives. He previously held positions at the Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC) and in the Parliament of the Commonwealth of Australia. Shane was awarded a PhD in economics from the Australian National University in 2007 and holds a Bachelor of Commerce in economics from the University of Wollongong.
About Collins
Collins most recently served as the chief economist at the Investment Company Institute since 2017. His research and analysis focus on the flows, assets, fees, and industrial organization of registered investment companies; financial market issues; the costs and benefits of laws and regulations governing funds; money market funds; and financial stability. Prior to becoming chief economist, he held several roles at ICI, including senior director of industry and financial analysis. Before joining the Institute in 2000, Collins was a staff economist at the Federal Reserve Board and an economist at the Reserve Bank of New Zealand. He has a PhD in economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a BA in economics from Claremont McKenna College.
