Expert Forum Asset Management:
The Management of Liquidity and Leverage Risk in Regulated Funds
Monday, 2 March 2020
Frankfurt
Financial stability continues to be an important focus in Europe and globally. Policymakers want to identify sources of potential systemic risk and act to mitigate them so that the financial system and the real economy are not negatively affected. The asset management sector has grown in size and significance within the global financial system, and issues specific to open-end investment funds—including how they manage liquidity and meet investor redemptions, and their use of leverage—continue to attract considerable scrutiny.
This timely forum will explore these issues in depth. An introductory panel on the structure and regulation of open-end funds will set the stage for a framing of the concerns that are front and center in policymaking circles. Afternoon panels featuring both policymakers and industry experts will address topics such as the relative robustness of liquidity management practices, the actual experience of funds during periods of market stress and what can be learned from those experiences, and the use of leverage and derivatives in fund portfolios. Forum attendees will have opportunities to interact with presenters outside the sessions as well, including at an end-of-day gathering.
