Unit Investment Trust Data
July 2002Washington, DC, September 3, 2002 - Unit investment trusts, investment companies that hold fixed portfolios of selected stocks or bonds, had total deposits of $1.31 billion in July 2002, according to statistics compiled by the Investment Company Institute. For comparison, deposits were $923.8 million in June 2002 and $2.38 billion in July 2001.

2,382.0 | There were 82 new trusts issuing shares in July 2002. Of that total, 54 were new equity trusts, 25 tax-free bond trusts, and three new taxable bond trusts. In terms of maturity, long-term bond trusts having an average weighted maturity of more than 15 years were the most commonly offered in July 2002, with $201.8 million in shareholder deposits. Historical unit investment trust deposit data are available dating back to January 1996.
