Unit Investment Trust Data
June 2002Washington, DC, July 24, 2002 - Unit investment trusts, investment companies that hold fixed portfolios of selected stocks or bonds, had total deposits of $923.8 million in June 2002, according to statistics compiled by the Investment Company Institute. For comparison, deposits were $957.9 million in May 2002 and $1.29 billion in June 2001.

1,294.3 | There were 53 new trusts issuing shares in June 2002. Of that total, 22 were new equity trusts, 26 tax-free bond trusts, and five new taxable bond trusts. In terms of maturity, long-term bond trusts having an average weighted maturity of more than 15 years were the most commonly offered in June 2002, with $164.6 million in shareholder deposits. Historical unit investment trust deposit data are available dating back to January 1996.
