Unit Investment Trust Data
April 2002Washington, DC, July 12, 2002 - Unit investment trusts, investment companies that hold fixed portfolios of selected stocks or bonds, had total deposits of $872.1 million in April 2002, according to statistics compiled by the Investment Company Institute. For comparison, deposits were $1.35 billion in March 2002 and $1.19 billion in April 2001.

1,194.4 | There were 64 new trusts issuing shares in April 2002. Of which, 45 were new equity trusts, 18 tax-free bond trusts, and one new taxable bond trust. In terms of maturity, long-term bond trusts having an average weighted maturity of more than 15 years were the most commonly offered in April 2002, with $96.1 million in shareholder deposits. Historical unit investment trust deposit data are available dating back to January 1996.
