Unit Investment Trust Data
February 2007

Washington, DC, March 19, 2007 - Unit investment trusts, investment companies that hold fixed portfolios of selected stocks or bonds, had total deposits of $2.24 billion in February, according to statistics compiled by ICI. For comparison, deposits were $3.77 billion in January and $1.85 billion in February 2006.

There were 56 new trusts issuing shares in February. Of that total, 50 were equity trusts, 2 were taxable-bond trusts and 4 were tax-free bond trusts.

In terms of maturity, long-term bond trusts having an average weighted maturity of more than 15 years were the most commonly offered in February with $39.45 million in shareholder deposits.

Year-end 2006 Figures: Data on the market value of unit investment trusts issued and outstanding as of year-end 2006 indicates a total of 5,907 trusts with a value of $49.66 billion. According to reports of sponsors, at year-end 2006 there were 4,022 tax-free bond trusts, with a market value of $8.71 billion; 319 taxable bond trusts, with a market value of $2.14 billion; and 1,566 equity trusts, with a market value of $38.81 billion.
