Closed-End Fund Assets, Third Quarter 2007

Washington, DC, December 13, 2007 - The combined assets of the nation's closed-end funds were $328.10 billion at the end of September 2007, ICI reported today in a quarterly statistical collection of closed-end funds.

Total closed-end fund assets increased $33.60 billion during the third quarter. Equity fund assets increased by $6.63 billion to $153.63 billion, and bond fund assets decreased by $3.27 billion to $174.46 billion.

ICI's data collection also includes the value of new proceeds invested in closed-end funds and the total number of funds. For the quarter, proceeds to closed-end funds were $5.81 billion, compared with $11.37 billion in the second quarter. There were 668 closed-end funds at the end of the third quarter. Bond funds numbered 437, and equity funds totaled 231. There were 647 closed-end funds at year-end 2006.
