Closed-End Fund Assets, Second Quarter 2007

Washington, DC, August 29, 2007 - The combined assets of the nation's closed-end funds were $324.96 billion at the end of June 2007, ICI reported today in a quarterly statistical collection of closed-end funds.

Total closed-end fund assets increased $12.55 billion during the second quarter. Equity fund assets increased by $10.19 billion to $146.88 billion, and bond fund assets increased by $2.37 billion to $178.08 billion.

ICI's data collection also includes the value of new proceeds invested in closed-end funds and the total number of funds. For the quarter, proceeds to closed-end funds were $11.37 billion, compared with $12.89 billion in the first quarter. There were 656 closed-end funds at the end of the second quarter. Bond funds numbered 435, and equity funds totaled 221. There were 647 closed-end funds at year-end 2006.
