Exchange-Traded Fund Assets
July 2006Washington, DC, August 29, 2006 - The combined assets of the nation's exchange-traded funds (ETFs) were $336.92 billion in July, according to ICI. The Institute's monthly statistical collection also includes the value of shares issued and redeemed by exchange-traded funds. Statistics contained in the Institute's monthly ETF report have been obtained from information provided to ICI by exchange-traded funds. Trust-issued receipts, such as Holding Company Depository Receipts (HOLDRS), are not included in the report because they are not issued by registered investment companies.

201 | Highlights: Assets of all exchange-traded funds rose in July by $1.81 billion, or 0.5 percent, to $336.92 billion. Over the past 12 months, ETF assets increased $84.60 billion, or 33.53percent. Assets in domestic equity ETFs increased $38.71 billion since July 2005, and global equity ETFs assets rose $40.83 billion during this period. During July, the value of all ETF shares issued exceeded that of shares redeemed by $1.96 billion. In 2006, ETFs have experienced a net issuance of $31.80 billion.
