Exchange-Traded Fund Assets
March 2006Washington, DC, April 26, 2006 - The combined assets of the nation's exchange-traded funds (ETFs) were $321.29 billion in March, according to ICI. The Institute's monthly statistical collection also includes the value of shares issued and redeemed by exchange-traded funds. Statistics contained in the Institute's monthly ETF report have been obtained from information provided to ICI by exchange-traded funds. Trust-issued receipts, such as Holding Company Depository Receipts (HOLDRS), are not included in the report because they are not issued by registered investment companies.

201 | Highlights: Assets of all exchange-traded funds rose in March by $5.95 billion, or 1.9 percent, to $321.29 billion. Over the past 12 months, ETF assets increased $92.54 billion, or 40 percent. Assets in domestic equity ETFs increased $45.22 billion since March 2005, and global equity ETFs assets rose $43.16 billion during this period. During March, the value of all ETF shares issued exceeded that of shares redeemed by $936 million. In 2006, ETFs have experienced a net issuance of $7.62 billion.
