Exchange-Traded Fund Assets
February 2006Washington, DC, March 27, 2006 - The combined assets of the nation's exchange-traded funds (ETFs) were $315.34 billion in February, according to ICI. The Institute's monthly statistical collection also includes the value of shares issued and redeemed by exchange-traded funds. Statistics contained in the Institute's monthly ETF report have been obtained from information provided to ICI by exchange-traded funds. Trust-issued receipts, such as Holding Company Depository Receipts (HOLDRS), are not included in the report because they are not issued by registered investment companies.

201 | Highlights: Assets of all exchange-traded funds rose in February by $2.55 billion, or0.8 percent, to $315.34 billion. Over the past 12 months, ETF assets increased $91.5 billion, or 41 percent. Assets in domestic equity ETFs increased $48.1 billion since February 2005, and global equity ETFs assets climbed $38.6 billion during this period. During February, the value of all ETF shares issued exceeded that of shares redeemed by $3.82 billion. In 2006, ETFs have experienced a net issuance of $6.7 billion.
