Money Market Mutual Fund Assets

Washington, DC, May 8, 2008 - Total money market mutual fund assets increased by $54.01 billion to $3.472 trillion for the week ended Wednesday, May 7, the Investment Company Institute reported today.

Retail: Assets of retail money market funds increased by $5.99 billion to $1.238 trillion. Taxable money market fund assets in the retail category increased by $544 million to $941.19 billion, and tax-exempt fund assets increased by $5.45 billion to $297.01 billion.

Institutional: Assets of institutional money market funds increased by $48.02 billion to $2.234 trillion. Among institutional funds, taxable money market fund assets increased by $34.38 billion to $2.037 trillion, and tax-exempt fund assets increased by $13.64 billion to $197.46 billion.

ICI reports money market fund assets to the Federal Reserve each week. Revisions are due to data adjustments, reclassifications, and changes in the number of funds reporting. The Institute also provides other statistical reports on investment companies, including monthly reports on five broad categories of mutual funds.
