2013 Closed-End Fund Conference
ICI’s 2013 Closed-End Fund Conference, held on November 5, 2013, in New York, gave attendees the latest information on issues affecting closed-end funds, as well as the perspective of fund sponsors, fund shareholders, independent directors, attorneys, and regulators.
The conference panels addressed the most important issues for closed-end funds, including a panel focused on trends in closed-end fund offerings.
The first panel of the conference explored the creative ways that sponsors (including new types of sponsors, such as private equity and buyout firms) are using closed-end funds to fulfill the needs of different investors. The panel also reviewed the various ways in which closed-end funds are raising capital after the initial public offering, such as at-the-market offerings and off-the-shelf offerings. The panelists discussed the possible drivers for these emerging new trends.
Other highlights included:
- A two-part panel on facing the emerging challenges of managing a closed-end fund
- Market support and research and secondary trading of closed-end fund shares
- Keynote address from Ron Insana, a financial journalist with real-world experience who offered his insights on the ever-changing status of the economy
- Luncheon address from Alex Castellanos, one of the best known and most successful media consultants and strategists, who discussed the state of discord in Washington, DC, and its effects on the U.S. economy and businesses
